Spring Alphathon™ - 2017 Summary

The Spring Alphathon 2017 has concluded, and the competition was close, with a lot of activity!  Here is a quick summary:

  • Well over 7,000 active participants
  • 16 countries represented
  • Over 500 users created alphas adequate for scoring
  • Almost 45,000 alphas submitted for scores
  • 99 “winners” achieved Gold status
  • Top score was 30X Gold level!

WorldQuant’s Alphathons are all about “Getting to Gold”, and 100 contenders from 7 countries achieved Gold status within the two month competition.  Great job to all!

Special congratulations to Shirish from India who achieved the top score among all participants!  While it takes 10,000 points to achieve Gold status, Shirish accumulated over 364,000 points in two months!

Contributing to a strong finish in the competition, Diep and Cuong from Vietnam were closely chasing Shirish with each one amassing over 360,000 points as well.

If you were not able to join us for the Spring Alphathon, don’t worry—we plan to conduct the Summer Alphathon shortly and hope you will participate!  More details to follow.

These seasonal Alphathons make the WorldQuant Challenge even more exciting by offering qualified individuals earning top scores a potential special one-time stipend (see official rules here).

The WorldQuant Challenge is a year-round competition that provides interested participants with an opportunity to test their ideas and strategies using WebSim, WorldQuant’s web-based market simulator. Qualified participants earn points by identifying high-quality trading signals - what we call Alphas - and these points can lead to Bronze, Silver and Gold status.

Individuals who achieve Silver or Gold status may be considered for Research Consultant positions with WorldQuant.

For those who achieved Gold in the Spring Alphathon and are interested in our Research Consultant program, you will be contacted by your local WorldQuant office to discuss next steps in the onboarding process.  We look forward to seeing great results from you all!
